The Problem

According to the U.S Environmental Protection Agency, organic materials like food are the single largest category of material placed in municipal landfills, where they emit methane, a powerful and harmful greenhouse gas. Municipal solid waste landfills are the third-largest source of human-related methane emissions in the United States, accounting for approximately more than 14 percent of
these emissions.

The Goal

Identify innovative solutions that allow consumers to recycle food waste efficiently and conveniently at home or elsewhere to eliminate food waste ending up in a landfill.
